* TORONTO THING OF THE WEEK :
* DANU SOCIAL HOUSE!!!!
__—++—__—++==00~~
More people in Toronto need to know about Danu Social House, on Queen just west of Dufferin. It’s a bar, but, really, it’s a lot more than that. Josh, who runs it, created it to be a place where people can meet, and talk, and share ideas, and build community, and all that kind of stuff. They have tons of regular events, all free, including PowerPoint Presentation party, Throat Coat Karaoke, House Party (which I helped start in some way), Silent Book Club, Family Dinner, and a million other things. It’s a really special place, and if you like the sort of things listed in this newsletter, you should probably check it out. Here’s their web site, here’s their events listing page.

Apr 30: Very Funny Party with Experimental Comedy and Halloween Costumes, Vol. 1 [link]
There is really a lot going on here: “we have burlesque, we have a clowny mc, we have standup comedians, we have an improv troupe, we have face painting, we have artists, we have rave dj-ing, we have these cool puzzle pieces to help people make friends and form teams for little minigames, we have a fashion show for funny shirts, and also it is HALFOWEEN (half a year until normal halloween, right?), so we have a fashion show for halloween costumes” How was I supposed to remember all this, Ryan?
Apr 30: Should We Let Media Die? [link]
Lecture followed by zine-making, at InterAccess.
May 1: All About Intimacy - Friends, Lovers, Strangers [link]
I run this series with my friend Sophia, and sometimes Heidi. It’s a series of conversations around love, sex, frienship, and more. It’s great! Past themes have included “how is sex integrated/compartmentalized in your life”, “Shame” and “Queer Platonic Friendship”. The theme this time is “Friends, Lovers, Strangers: Ways of Being Seen” - about the different kinds of connection that are possible with people we do/don’t know well.
May 1: General Trivia Night [link]
Nerdy trivia night with Quiz Mistress Lacey Artemis at Guild House.
May 1: Slumber Party [link]
Wear your pajamas at Danu.
May 3: House Party at Danu Social House [link]
This was an idea started by me and Josh, the owner of Danu. I think Josh has made it a lot bettter since we started it. The deal is it’s a bar, but you are allowed to talk to other people, and also the party has a host (Josh) who talks to everyone and introduces them.
May 3: Apologies (+ Forgiveness)? [link]
Workshop on understanding and practicing apologies.
May 3: It's Not a Wedding [link]
Pretty much every event listed here is not a wedding, and they don’t make a big deal about it.
May 3: "I Choose You" Pokemon Pack Opening and Card Painting Workshop [link]
Fashion designers host a night where I think you open packs of Pokemon cards and paint on them. I don’t really understand what is going on, but you should totally go and then tell me about it.
May 4: Invisible Strangers [link]
Someone was telling me this was good, but I can’t remember who.
May 4: Ravensburger Puzzle Competition [link]
Are you really good at jigsaw puzzles? Like, better than other people? Want them to know? Competitive jigsaw puzziling is for you!
May 4: Fully Automated Smash Community [link]
Play Super Smash Bros. Melee
May 5: The Trampoline Hall Lecture Series [link]
The lecture series I host. It’s great. It sells out very very fast.

About Misha
Hi, I’m Misha! Nice to meet you. I make this newsletter. We started this in September. Around the same time, I also started my own substack. So far the most popular post is one called Stop Pretending Toronto is More Than It Is, which you might like. Or read more about Toronto Event Generator.
I run and host the Trampoline Hall Lecture Series. I co-host All About Intimacy, a conversation event about love, sex, and friendship, and sometimes host a live-band karaoke night at Jean Darlene Piano Room.
In my working life, I help companies foster better human connection - I help teams get better at talking about tough issues, and help organizations run better conferences, workshops, and offsites.
You can find me on twitter, instagram, substack… See you at the next event!
