Toronto Event Generator Newsletter Jan 22, 2025
1. Toronto is everything that is the case. 1.1 Toronto is the totality of facts, not of things.

Presented by The Toronto Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, led by noted Toronto proponent and non-rapper Ben Parry.
“The Viaduct is an experiment in education for a new Toronto. A lecture series highlighting people and ideas that could transform our city… building intellectual infrastructure that will promote education, community, and cultural creativity for the next 100 years and beyond.”
I’ve been to two of these now and they are great!

“LEO, a 6-foot AI entity is consumed by mastering art and human expression. In a 20-minute conversation, you'll meet a character that embodies both a master and student… Using advanced LLM models, motion capture data, and real-time processing, LEO appears as a volumetric hologram capable of fluid movement and natural conversation”
Jan 25: Something Strange Sideshow Festival: Oddities Market and Freakshow [link]
Organized by local legend Mysterion
Jan 26: Square Dance Social: A Challenge in Group Coordination [link]
As you probably know, Toronto Event Generator provides grants to support events. Abi asked me if we would be interested in supporting an event she described as “Square Dancing for Rationalists”. I honestly cannot think of a better way to spend this grant money- this exceeds all my hopes.
She writes: “If you’re someone who enjoys Applied Rationality, this will be an opportunity to engage in the most mathematical dance form ever created in the history of earth.” What could be better!
Jan 26: Change My View IRL [link]
An in-person party-game version of the Reddit Forum “Change my view”. Between this and Abi’s rationalist square dancing, this makes Jan 26 2025 the most Toronto Event Generator day in the history of Toronto Event Generator.
Jan 26: All Ages Karaoke and Board Games Night at Palmerston Library [link]
Do you love Karaoke but you wish that there were also board games and it was in a public library instead of a bar? Your wish comes true!
Jan 27: Freestyle Socials: 90s & 2000s Movie Madness [link]
A project to reduce the problem of polarization in our society by getting people together at Wenona to vote on their favorite movies. Could work!

At Danu Social House. You can read a book around other people who are also reading books

About Misha
Hi, I’m Misha! Nice to meet you. I make this newsletter, with no help at all from Bianca Guimarães de Manuel. We started this in September. Around the same time, I also started my own substack. So far the most popular post is one called Stop Pretending Toronto is More Than It Is, which you might like. Or read more about Toronto Event Generator.
I run and host the Trampoline Hall Lecture Series. I co-host All About Intimacy, a conversation event about love, sex, and friendship, and sometimes host a live-band karaoke night at Jean Darlene Piano Room.
In my working life, I help companies foster better human connection - I help teams get better at talking about tough issues, and help organizations run better conferences, workshops, and offsites.
You can find me on twitter, instagram, substack… See you at the next event!
